Officials of Kazakhstan intend to build the trade turnover with Uzbekistan to US$5 billion
Active bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in a wide range of areas have a positive effect on mutual trade turnover. Officials of Kazakhstan intend to build the trade turnover with Uzbekistan to US$5 billion. The trade turnover between the countries was estimated at US$2 billion in 2017. In return, representatives of Uzbekistan are planning to export their products to the European market through Kazakhstan’s sea gate. A number of topics will be discussed at the interregional forum of cooperation which will be held as part of the year of Uzbekistan in Kazakhstan.
BAKHYTZHAN KHABIBULAYEV, DEPUTY CHAIRMAN, KARAKALPAKSTAN COUNCIL OF MINISTERS:
- We are focusing on the development of relations between our regions. For example, relations between our regions, specifically, Karakalpakstan, the Aktau region and the Kyzylorda region are especially important. It is mentioned that we need to develop economic relations, organize joint forums and meetings as well as exchange experiences between experts, develop education, science and research.
Local government officials of Kazakhstan’s 16 regions and 14 regions of Uzbekistan as well as businessmen will take part in the work of the forum. A representative of every region will present investment opportunities and free economic zones. Joint ventures in areas such as petro chemistry, pharmacy, cotton-processing and deep grain processing will be created.

- 206 Kazakh investors enjoy concessions and preferences that are available for foreign investors at the special economic zone of Uzbekistan. Investors are also provided with tax concessions, customs concessions and land and resource tax concessions.
Unprecedented projects have been implemented in both countries since the republics gained independence. Kazakhstan’s logistics infrastructure has opened access for Uzbekistan to the European markets. During bilateral meetings the leaders of the two countries have adopted joint agreements on developing economic and cultural connections. As a result, the parties have concluded contracts worth 1 billion 200 million dollars.
