Kazakh producers increase food exports
Kazakh agrarians are entering new markets. Farmers of the Kostanai region started exports of organic food products to Europe, including a range of both grown and processed foods. Last year, the Kostanai region exported approximately 2,000 tonnes of flax oil to Europe. The oil crop area in the Fedorovsky district is almost 60, 000 hectares. Local farmers grow a variety of plants like flax, mustard plant and sunflower. This fall, these plants gave nine centners per hectare. They cost twice as much as wheat.
MICHAEL ZHIGALKO, HEAD OF KOSTANAY ENTERPRENEUERSHIP AND AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT:
- Average price for flax is around 80-85,000 tenge, the average price for the 4th-class wheat reaches 40,000 tenge.
Seven farms of the Fedorovsky region refused to use chemicals and got an international organic food certification. A special inspection confirmed the level of the farm’s compliance with the European standards, according to which production and fields are monitored on an ongoing basis.
SERGEI BONDAREV, INSPECTOR, UKRAINE:
- It is forbidden to use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides. There must be a certain crop rotation. One plant shouldn’t be grown several times. The soil erosion should be controlled.
Vladimir Zaverukha cultivates organic products the fifth year. He exports cooking oil to Europe. Some of the flax seeds supplied by neighboring eco-farms are processed at the local factory. The bulk of the product is exported to China.
VLADIMIR ZAVERUKHA, HEAD OF FARM:
- The conditions are certainly very complicated and difficult, but it is quite profitable. No matter how much we produce, we always implement novelties in practice.
The growing areas of oilseeds enhanced the need for high-tech production. In the near future, another Fedorovka oil refining factory will be built along the three existing ones with a processing capacity of up to 300,000 tonnes per year.
