IMPLEMENTATION OF NURLY ZHOL PROGRAM

IMPLEMENTATION OF NURLY ZHOL PROGRAM

One of the priorities of Nurly Zhol state program is the construction of new and reconstruction of existing highways in Kazakhstan. The program’s implementation will let Kazakhstan enter the list of top 30 developed countries. Center-South section will be connected with Temirtau-Karaganda highway.

IGOR GAFTON, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, REGIONAL BRANCH, KAZAVTOZHOL NATIONAL ROAD MANAGEMENT COMPANY:

 - This year, we are planning to open both sides of the highway to the traffic. Next year, we will fully complete the construction, and install the illumination and road signs.

Reconstruction is complete for ‘Center-South’ direction, that is, Astana-Temirtau and Almaty-Kapshagai section. Kokshetau-Petropavlovsk and Astana-Kostanay highways are repaired. ‘Western Europe-Western China’ international transit corridor is fully complete. "Nurly Zhol" is not only roads, but also railway and sea, airports, water supply, and utilities. The state invested about 480 billion tenge in these projects. Both budget and investment funds were involved.

ROMAN SKLYAR, FIRST VICE MINISTER OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - We have also started reconstruction of 228 kilometer long Kurty-Burylbaital road section that will be financed by the World Bank and the European Bank. Budget financed reconstruction of the north-east road near Karaganda will be launched this year. The World Bank will finance the reconstruction of the 297 kilometers long Balkhash-Buralbaital and 65 kilometers long Kurty-Kapshagai highways.

Officials believe that the funds spent on road construction will pay off. For instance, Astana-Burabai toll road brings up to 1.5 billion of revenue per year. 6.5 more kilometers of highways will become toll roads. Toll road gates are being installed on Astana-Temirtau, Almaty-Kapshagai and Almaty-Khorgos highways.
