ASTANA TO HOST SCO SUMMIT
Astana will host the SCO summit. India and Pakistan set to enter the Shanghai Cooperation organization. According to experts, the admission of South Asian countries will move the SCO to a new development stage. It will strengthen its power and influence. The SCO will consolidate almost a half of the world’s population thereby becoming the second most populous structure after the UN.

- The admission of such large countries into the SCO as India and Pakistan significantly expands its opportunities, geography and scale. It will strengthen dialogue and conflict response mechanisms, mechanisms related to expanding economic and trade cooperation.
Kazakhstan has been chairing the SCO since June last year. Kazakhstan’s main priorities in the organization are strengthening regional security, expansion of economic cooperation, logistics potential, cultural and humanitarian ties.

- Kazakhstan’s greatest interest lies in the expansion of the SCO. For Kazakhstan, it means more efficient solution of regional security issues, in particular, in Afghanistan. India, an important player in international relations, is becoming involved in the solution of Afghanistan crisis. The SCO’s expansion into the globe gives Kazakhstan many advantages.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take part in the SCO summit in Astana. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to come. The summit will result in the adoption of the SCO Astana declaration.
