BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP OF KAZAKHSTAN AND SOUTH KOREA
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and South Korea. The countries actively enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all spheres. The investment potential is also growing. South Korea suggests Kazakhstan to create a joint platform which would unite the businessmen of the two countries. This was discussed at a seminar organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific in Seoul. Representatives of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of National Economy, Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, the Damu Foundation and embassies took part at this seminar. At the meeting, representatives of South Korea were offered to create a website where investors could find information about the Kazakh representatives of small and medium-sized businesses.
GALIYA DZHOLDYBAYEVA, DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF NATIONAL ECONOMY:
- Investors could learn about activities and opportunities of our business. Our business would be in contact and would know the information about investors. I think that in the end this can lead to attraction of investments in Kazakhstan and general development of small and medium business.
South Korea is interested in Kazakhstan’s transit potential, too. Transportation of goods from Asia to Europe through Kazakhstan can substantially decrease the expenses of South Korean entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs are sending their goods from South Korea to European countries via sea which lasts for 33 days. Meanwhile, it takes 20 more days to send cargo to China and then to use railroad through Kazakhstan to Europe.
KIM KWANG SEOK, SPOKESPERSON, LOGISTICS COMPANY, SOUTH KOREA:
- Kazakhstan is an important country in the transit of our goods to Europe. The shipment of cargo along the railway route is faster than the sea transportation which a way expensive. However, we intend to send goods through your country if tariffs are lowered and if the flow of goods increases from Kazakhstan to Korea.
The countries’ turnover of goods has reached 676 million dollars for the last year. Export has reached two hundred and twenty-three million.
