Kazakhstan opens new markets for livestock products. At the annual Assembly of the World Organization for Animal Health in Paris, 180 states have supported the recognition of Kazakhstan as the zone free from foot and mouth disease (FMD).
GULMIRA ISSAYEVA, KAZAKH VICE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE:
- This status opens us the markets of China, the countries of the Persian Gulf, Iran, will let us boost the trade on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union. It will fully open the potential of Kazakhstan as a country that can and must produce organic livestock products that meets all international requirements both for the domestic market and for export.
MONIQUE ELOIT, DIRECTOR GENERAL, WORLD ORGANIZATION FOR ANIMAL HEALTH:
- Partnership and collaboration with Kazakhstan and between Kazakhstan and the OIE is very successful. For several years, we have an office opened in Astana and this office will become a supervision representation of the OIE for it is a very good point.
The International Epizootic Bureau is the WTO’s advisory organization on veterinary and phytosanitary measures. FMD free countries become automatically recognized by all member countries of the World Trade Organization. According to experts, this is the result of 15 years long work and the contribution of the government and the entire Kazakhstani veterinary service.
KAZIMIERAS LUKAUSKAS, HEAD OF OIE OFFICE FOR EUROPE:
- Collaboration between the OIE and for us is very important because Kazakhstan science stay more and more stronger integrated in the world veterinary science institution and not only science but a veterinary education.
As experts emphasize, Ukraine and Belarus are the only post-Soviet countries that have the similar certificate. Kazakhstan’s FMD free status will soon double livestock exports, deputy head of the committee for veterinary control and supervision of Agriculture Ministry, Tursyn Kaboldadanov said. He noted that Iran and Israel are interested in Kazakhstani products

- The official recognition of Kazakhstan as FMD free lets boost export potential of each enterprise. If earlier the Kazakh enterprises were in the buffer zone with vaccination, now they have the opportunity to sell their products to other countries and also increase the number of fattening sites as export expands.
In the future, Kazakhstan is planning to continue further export certification of livestock, as one of the largest agricultural producers in the region
