Tengizchevroil (TCO) LLP and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have launched a joint program on business support to improve the skills of domestic sector players. 18 Kazakh companies have received professional consulting services from domestic and international consultants within the framework of the program which introduces international standards and certification, improves the quality of goods and services as well as builds exports. TCO has allocated half a million dollars for the project’s implementation. According to the project initiators, the program will help local professionals gain access to know-how and finance.
ALMA KASYMOVA, NATIONAL PROGRAM MANAGER, EBRD SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORT TEAM:

Together the consultant and the client independently negotiate the price, approve the terms of reference and receive a grant of 10 thousand euros. One company per project can get this amount of the grant. If the project costs 20 thousand euros, the EBRD grants 10 thousand euros of the sum.
According to experts, development of local companies’ potential is of importance to ensure the future business expansion in Tengiz deposit and to actively involve local businessmen. Currently, the company’s data shows that the share of domestic goods makes up 32% of the total volume of purchased goods and services.

- The Ministry and TCO have agreed that TCO will establish the criterion of internal revenue as one of the criteria of selection of potential suppliers. The required level of local revenue will be fixed no less than 50% of construction packages.
