IMPROVEMENT OF BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT IN KAZAKHSTAN’S REGIONS
More and more Kazakhstanis want to run their own business. This conclusion was made by prominent experts and entrepreneurs at a seminar on improving the business environment that was held at the Institute for Economic Research. According to analysts, Kazakhstan has significantly improved doing business conditions as evidenced by world ratings. For example, Kazakhstan topped up in the World Bank’s authoritative ranking “Doing Business”. The work in this direction has to be continued. In the annual address to the people, the Kazakh President set the tasks to further improve business support tools, introducing the principles of public-private partnership, reducing the state’s participation in the economy to 15%, which corresponds to the level of the OECD countries.
SERZHAN MADIEV, CHAIRMAN, INSTITUTE FOR ECONOMIC RESEARCH JSC
- Firstly, it is necessary to maintain the optimal level of support. If we support everyone or on the contrary don’t provide the necessary support, our SMEs may be in non-competitive conditions. We should carefully monitor the state support measures of our nearest neighbors, such as Russia, China, the Central Asian countries.
The meeting participants have discussed the doing business conditions in Kazakhstan as well as proposed the idea to develop the ease of doing business rankings in the regions. It will be introduced this year. According to the experts of Economic Research Institute, this approach will increase competition among the regions. The cities demonstrating certain results in entrepreneurship development will be eligible for a special award.
