Kazakh athletes arrived in South Korea to participate in the 23rd Winter Olympics
Kazakh athletes arrived in South Korea to participate in the 23rd Winter Olympics, which will be held from the 9th to 25th of February. 102 sets of medals in 7 sports and 15 disciplines will be played out among nearly 3,000 athletes representing 95 national Olympic committees. A series of four-year sporting events will be held at 12 sports facilities in two South Korean cities. One of them, Pyeongchang, which became popular all over the world, is the center of the district, which unites eight settlements. Pyeongchang is popular among tourists who like skiing all year round. The main Olympics competitions will be held in Pyeongchang County.
KIM MI RAN, STAFF, ADMINISTRATION OF PYEONGCHANG COUNTY:
- Pyeongchang is an agricultural area and therefore there are not so many restaurants and hotels in comparison with the city. After the approval of Pyeongchang as the capital of the Olympic Games, we opened 50,000 hotel rooms and most likely there will be no acute shortage. If there is a need, the nearby cities are ready to welcome the guests.
Another city that will host the Olympics is Gangneung. It is here where a large delegation of Kazakhstani athletes and fans will come. Ice sports competitions will be held on the east coast of South Korea. Kazakh athletes won ten Olympic licenses on the short track and are among the five best teams in the world.
CHON IN O, RESIDENT OF GANGNEUNG:
- Our city residents love the short track, because the gold medalist in this sport lives in Gangneung. We had several ice rinks, several new ones were built for Olympics.
KIM POK RENG, RESIDENT OF GANGNEUNG:
- A high-speed train was launched from Seoul to Gangneung ahead of the Olympic Games. Our market was equipped, the number of customers grew.
2018 Winter Olympics will surprise visitors with new technologies. Trains from Seoul to Pyeongchang will travel at a speed of 300 kilometers per hour. The fastest 5G Internet will be used for the first time in the world. Robots will help tourists to find a route. Pyeongchang visitors will become not only participants of the sports festival, but also the Lunar New Year to be celebrated on February 16, in the midst of the Olympic Games.
