Shoukhrat Mitalipov was born on August 19, 1961 in Avat town of Almaty region. He has studied in Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy and Center for Medical Genetics of Russian Academy of Medical Sciences. He has been living and working in the United States since 1995.
In 1998, he began his research work at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) after conducting doctoral research in stem cells and developmental biology at the University of Utah.
At the moment, Dr. Mitalipov heads the OHSU Center for Embryonic Cell and Gene Therapy, which is focused on developing methods to prevent the transmission of genetic diseases from parents to the child.
The world-famous Time Magazine has included Shoukhrat Mitalipov in the list of the 50 most influential people in the field of health care.
