March 1, 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Presidential Decree on the formation of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan - unique institute of national representation, which became the foundation of the Kazakh model of interethnic tolerance and social harmony. The idea of ​​establishing the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan was first announced by Nursultan Nazarbayev in 1992 at the Forum of Peoples of Kazakhstan, marking the first anniversary of Independence of the Republic.

The main task of the Assembly is the implementation of the state national policy, ensuring political stability in Kazakhstan and increase of the cooperation efficiency between state and civil society institutions in the field of inter-ethnic relations. The Assembly has the right to vote in to the Majilis nine members representing the interests of all ethnic groups of the country.

By the Presidential Decree year 2015 was declared as the Year of the Assembly of Peoples of Kazakhstan.
