More than 200,000 citizens of Hungary consider themselves descendants of the ancient Kipchaks, the historical expedition members said after visiting this European country. Descendants of the Kipchaks live in the city of Karzag, two hundred kilometers from Budapest. They migrated here from Asia in the 13th century and later founded the horse troops in the Hungarian army. Local authorities call them kuns.

MIKLOS MOLNAR, DIRECTOR, HUNGARIAN NATIONAL MUSEUM:

 -  In our opinion, since the fifteenth century the Kipchaks began to assimilate among the Hungarians. Many marriages took place. Now two hundred thousand people consider themselves descendants of the ancient Kipchaks.

This is a monument to the famous Turkologist Istvan Mandoki. He made a great contribution to the development of cultural ties between the Hungarian and Kazakh people. The Enlightener spoke 30 languages; he went to Europe and wrote many scientific works.

SAPAR ISKAKOV, CURATOR:

 -  He visited Kazakhstan, and then started searching for traces of the people that lived in Desht-i-Kipchak. He visited Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, the entire North Caucasus, met with people. His research went far enough.

In the 18th century the Kipchaks finally settled in Hungary after buying out some land here. From that moment they became an important part of the country's culture. Three years ago, the authorities established the "Day of Memory, Customs and Traditions". It is celebrated on May 6. According to the Hungarians, Nursultan Nazarbayev's consciousness modernization program is important for all Turkic peoples.

SANDOR KOVACS, PRESIDENT OF GENERAL ASSEMBLY, JASZ-NAGYKUN-SZOLNOK COUNTY:

 -  The program of spiritual revival and modernization of public consciousness was welcomed in our country. Historical past is very important for people. Younger generation should know their roots. We are always ready to support Kazakhstan.

Historians have studied extensive amount of materials. The Hungarian side is ready to deepen cooperation with Kazakhstan in this research. The historical expedition collected genetic samples from local residents.
