The British Prime Minister has vowed that the UK will not turn its back on the world, despite the recent vote to leave the EU.

In her first addres to the UN General Assembly, Theresa May said Britain had also been positioned at the centre of world affairs, and said that would not change. Yet, she said the British people had voted to take greater control of issues such as immigration.

“The United Kingdom has always been an outward-facing, global partner at the heart of international efforts to secure peace and prosperity for all our people,” she said.

“And that is how we will remain. For when the British people voted to leave the EU, they did not vote to turn inwards or walk away from any of our partners in the world.”
