Two weeks prior to the Olympics, Brazilian authorities announced the arrest of 10 people, accused of planning terrorist attacks during the Rio Olympic Games. According to investigators, the leader of the group was in Curitiba in the south of the country, and the rest were in other different cities. They did not know each other personally and communicated via telephone and the Internet. According to authorities, the arrested alleged terrorists tried to buy a Kalashnikov rifle in Paraguay. In addition, they swore allegiance to ISIS, however Brazilian extremists didn’t have direct contact with the group.
