Astana hosted the Central Asian Internet Governance Forum

Astana hosted the Central Asian Internet Governance Forum. It gathered over 200 participants from the Central Asian countries, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Europe and America.

TATTU MAMBETALIYEVA, DIRECTOR, PUBLIC FUND, KYRGYZSTAN:

- This is the third forum. The first forum was held in Bishkek, the following was held in Dushanbe, Astana is taking over this year and we will hold the next forum in Tashkent. We hope that Ashgabat will host the forum in a year. We review the programs in every country, because the agenda and objectives are different in every Central Asian country.

At the forum, leading foreign speakers discussed important issues, which include the national and global approaches to the Internet governance, the Internet regulation and the improvement of the Internet access. Experts highlighted that the Internet’s influence on the sociopolitical and economic development is quite significant.

VLADIMIR SVANADZE, SPOKESPERSON, INTERNET DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE, GEORGIA:

 - In Georgia, we are adopting the third strategy on cyber security. We are very happy to share our experience with the local colleagues. I know that the specialists in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are very interested in the development of cyber security. We would also like to share our experience with you and we will discuss these topics at the plenary session.

According to the participants, the forum has turned into a traditional platform to define detailed approaches to the Internet regulation and governance. As part of the forum, advanced recommendations are made every year based on the regional and international practices.

ALEXANDRA KULIKOVA, HEAD OF STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT FOR EASTERN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA, ICANN:

- We are partnering with the Central Asian Forum for the third year, from the very establishment of this event. We are very proud of the success that this event has gained over this period. It is a very interesting platform for the interactions of the Internet governance experts providing their expertise in businesses, public organizations or technical communities.

The forum is held since 2006 under the United Nations auspices. The forum is expected to be held in Tashkent next year.
