International Petroleum Olympiad took place in Atyrau
Future oilmen and geologists of Kazakhstan and Russia took part in the Atyrau International Petroleum Olympiad. Students of the leading universities of the two countries competed in the knowledge of the industry and English proficiency.
YERMEK KUZENBAYEV, DIRECTOR, ATYRAU PETROLEUM EDUCATION CENTER PETROTECHNIC:
- The Olympiad is peculiar because it is conducted in English. All students and participants speak English and use technical terminology in English. This opens great prospects for students. After graduation they can land a job in any international company.
During the two days of the competitions, the students had joint lab projects, took part in brainstorming sessions, team building activities and discussion panels. In addition, the participants had to present their own oil and gas industry development projects to the jury.
DIANA ALIPOVA, STUDENT:
- We had to demonstrate our strengths, understanding and knowledge of the industry. We had to show how we should behave and react in different situations because we all know that the oil and gas industry is full of risks.
TATYANA KRUGLIKOVA, RUSSIAN STUDENT:
- This was a very good experience. We will tell our fellow students about the event, so next year they can also participate.
Participants were assessed by experienced judges - top managers and leading specialists of the world’s leading oil and gas companies operating in Kazakhstan. 40 students passed to the second stage of the competition. The Atyrau team won the first place, participants from Moscow came second and the students from Almaty took the third place.
