Nursultan Nazarbayev held a press conference in Akorda for representatives of Kazakhstan’s and foreign mass media. The President was asked more than two dozen questions during the 2-hours interview. The first one was about the main event, the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2017. The head of state said that it was a promotional event for Kazakhstan, but the most valuable was that the world’s best alternative energy developments were presented there. According to the President, it brought Kazakhstan both recognition and revenue.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - Money spent for Expo has paid off. Tourists filled all the hotels, restaurants, concert halls and shops. Business received great push. The income to the local budget has increased by several times over the years. Businessmen have also made money. This is good for the country.

Journalists asked about the new Kazakh alphabet. The President has recommended avoiding letters with superscripts to make it easier to use computer keyboards and text messages. Scientists have taken it into account. According to Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Latin script will be gradually introduced in Kazakhstan.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - When there is a consensus, and historians come to an agreement, then I will announce about the introduction of a new alphabet. This does not mean that the new alphabet will be introduced tomorrow. Cyrillic alphabet will continue to play its role, many works have been written in this script. Those who use Cyrillic should not worry. We need to train teachers. The Latin alphabet will be introduced at school in 2022. Children will learn it quickly I think.

Kazakhstan stands for stabilization of relations since geopolitical stability depends on it. For the sixth time in Astana the country has provided a platform for negotiations on the Syrian conflict. Nursultan Nazarbayev noted that the country is ready to provide additional support for the settlement of the situation.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

- According to our Constitution, we can send our military forces to "hot spots" only in correspondence with the Parliament’s consent. Secondly, according to articles the participation of CSTO isn’t covered. However, if the United Nations decides to send such forces, we, as members of the United Nations, can send our military in order to participate.

The meeting in Akorda acquired non-official status by the end. The President gave advice on to stay active despite tight work schedule.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

- The work of the President is not only about a signature under decrees or laws, 90% is beyond the media visibility. It is about hard work which demands health, requires a lot of psychological and emotional energy. Of course, the fact that you like your job helps to withstand. According to Confucius, choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. It's difficult, but I get used to planning for tomorrow so do you.

Next weekend Nursultan Nazarbayev plans a trip to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The president promised to personally monitor the event, which will gather spectators from around the world for screening of a duel between Gennady Golovkin and his opponent Saul Alvarez. Usually these sorts of press conferences by the Head of State are infrequent. This is why the press is highly interested in them. 105 journalists are accredited to the meeting, including Kazakh and international journalists.
