Kazakh scientists will present the concept of spelling using Kazakh alphabets in Latin script

Kazakh scientists will present the concept of spelling using Kazakh alphabets in Latin script. According to experts, there are issues that needed detailed studies, particularly on the preservation of the original morpheme of the Kazakh language as the transition to Latin alphabet may cause the Kazakh language to lose its habitual sound.

ANAR FAZYLZHANOVA, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, BAITURSYNOV INSTITUTE OF LINGUISTICS:

 - Leading scientists of the country are discussing the concept of spelling the Kazakh words in Latin alphabet. The orthology process and new spelling rules will be developed. Orthology is a section of linguistics that studies the norms of language, as well as deviations from these norms. Therefore, the adoption of this concept is very important for all of us.

According to scientists, the adopted version of the alphabet might be revised in the future. However, transition to the Latin alphabet will be conducted in several stages and will be completed until 2025. The Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports has approved a schedule for the transition to a new alphabet in all levels, including schools and universities.

KUAT BORASHEV, CHAIRPERSON, COMMITTEE OF KAZAKH MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SPORTS:

 - First of all, it is necessary to determine the norms of spelling, specifically, unified rules for writing Kazakh words. Our scientists and linguists are working on these rules. I think that by the end of this month the concept will be approved. Next, in September, the project on spelling rules will be transferred to the National Commission for an approval and then to the Prime Minister for consideration.

Meanwhile, in order to translate and edit texts, experts proposed to develop a road map and approve a single program that will technically translate information into Latin alphabets.
