18 popular textbooks are translated in Kazakh

18 popular textbooks are translated in Kazakh and presented to universities in Kazakhstan as part of the ‘New Humanitarian Education’ project. Students in Karaganda universities received nearly 1,500 copies of the first edition textbook on management, economics, psychology and sociology fundamentals. All the textbooks use the modern approach to learning. For example, the new economic books do not focus only on theory but on practice and examples too.  Teachers said the books would bring huge benefits to the students.

NURSULTAN SARSENBEKOV, SENIOR TEACHER:

 - Although we study at the technical university, we also attend lectures on philosophy, sociology, political science and religious studies. Previously, we read most of the books in Russian.  The new textbooks, which were translated into Kazakh, is definitely a very good news for us all.

Specialists of Kazakhstan’s leading universities have worked on the translations of the textbooks into Kazakh language. All the books were carefully selected. Students in Aktobe also read the first editions of the textbooks in Kazakh.

AIMAN MAKHANOVA, MANAGER, MODERNIZATION OF KAZAKHSTAN’S IDENTITY PROJECT OFFICE:

 - 40 of the country’s best translators were involved in the process. More than three people worked on the text. The first translator knows the original text very well, the second translator speaks Kazakh and the third translator is an expert. All teachers should study these textbooks. Starting from 2018, the books will be included into the educational process.

10,000 copies of the first batch of books were given not only to educational institutions but also to all the libraries in the country. Digital version of the books will be available this month and free video lectures will be published online.

NAZGUL KOZHABEK, EDITOR, NATIONAL TRANSLATION BUREAU:

 - There are 25 video lectures for each textbook available in Kazakh and Russian. If the textbooks are written only in Kazakh, then the video lectures will be available in both Kazakh and Russian. The digital textbooks in the reader format will be published on the websites, 100kitap.kz and kitap.kz.

As part of the project, the National Translation Bureau began working on the next 30 books planned for 2018. The next project will publish the translated versions of linguistics, semiotics, Internet psychology, diplomacy and art history textbooks.
