Sacral Kazakhstan - Kazakh TV

Historians and archeologists from Kazakhstan, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Russia will study the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Mangystau region.

As part of the Modernization of Kazakhstan’s Identity program, the first tour of the international expedition is currently taking place in Aktau. As part of the expedition, the historians and archeologists are visiting over thirty holy sites and archeological facilities of the Mangyshlak Peninsula. The scientists will cover over 2,000 kilometers.

SVETLANA BELORUSSOVA, STAFF, KUNSTKAMERA, SAINT PETRSBURG, RUSSIA:

- We have great interest in Kazakhstan and Mangyshlak. In the early 20th century, our famous scientists used to travel and collect materials here. As a result of their work, we have extensive materials that need to be examined and studied.

The expedition will conduct research on six areas, including the ancient Mangystau ports, mysterious underground mosques, petroglyph, the fire cult and ethnographical materials that were collected previously. One group of researchers will conduct a comparative analysis of the Persian and Mangystau epic poems while other researchers will learn more about the nomadic culture. The third group of researchers will study the history of the legendary Queen Tomiris who allegedly lived in Mangystau and was the daughter of the king of Saka tribe.

ALKAZHAN YEDILKHAN, LOCAL HISTORY RESEARCHER:

 - Our land, the preserved names of places in our region, the titles of wells and even the names of people prove this statement. For instance, there is a well in our region which is called Besokty, which means ‘five arrows.’ Why not three arrows, or four arrows? It is well-known that Queen Tomiris shot five arrows before the war against the Persian king Cyrus.

The research findings of the international expedition will be part of a big scientific work. Scientists believe that it may take several years to study and organize the collected information. After the expedition ends, the organizers plan to shoot a documentary in Kazakh, Russian and English about the rich heritage of the region.
