Astana and Madrid are expanding their partnership. The representatives of the Institute of World Economy and Politics under the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan and the Elcano Royal Institute signed a memorandum of cooperation in research. The agreement is a result of the international round table titled ‘Connecting Eurasia: Kazakhstan’s role between Europe and East Asia.’ Sociologists, politicians and leading scientists of the two countries discussed Kazakhstan’s role in development of the Eurasian integration. Moreover, as part of the visit of President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, the photographic exhibition titled ‘Astana - the pearl of the Great Steppe’ was held in the Spanish capital. Approximately 100 photos of Astana and unique nature of Kazakhstan were presented in the exposition. At the end of the event, the memorandum of cooperation was signed between the representatives of the Spanish consortium Casa Asia and the Foundation of the First President of Kazakhstan.

YERZHAN SALTYBAYEV, DIRECTOR, INSTITUTE OF WORLD ECONOMY AND POLITICS:

- We very likely to build up cooperation with Spanish institutions and we hope to continue this cooperation in the future because we have so many things to discuss. Spain plays a very active role in Central Asia and we want to know more about the Spanish positions, thoughts and ideas.
