Kazakh travelers discover the history of the nation. Members of the “Following the Footsteps of Ancestors” research expedition visited 24 countries, including Caucasian, European, African, South Asian countries. The expedition’s main goal is to study the routes of the Huns, Turks and Cumans and learn more about the origin of the Kazakh people. The expedition members have gathered historic materials and genetic information about the ancestors of the Kazakhs. All the data will be examined and adapted by the “Desht-i-Kipchak” research center.

ZHAKSYLYK SABITOV, HISTORIAN:

 - The center is currently conducting work on deriving information on the Cumans’ history from 40 Russian records. It is a great amount of work that has not been done before. And now we will obtain data from all the 40 volumes of the Russian chronicles and we will present the history of Cumans based on the new findings.

Other important findings of the travelers include 30 medieval maps depicting borders of the Kazakh lands. One of them is made in Italy in the Middle Ages. It contains cities that existed on the territory of the present-day Kazakhstan. Scientists believe that decoding these maps will allow learning more about the formation of the urban civilization on the territory of Kazakhstan. According to the members of the expedition, these findings and discoveries are the main purpose of the project.

SAPAR ISKAKOV, EXPEDITION LEADER:

 - During the 13th century, after the invasion of the Tatar-Mongols, many of our ancestors were forced to leave their homeland and fled to Eastern and Western Europe. Some of the ancestors reached Eastern Europe including Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania whereas other ancestors fled to Spain and Portugal. In the 15th century, our ancestors went to America with the Spanish and Portuguese. We are discovering their footsteps almost in all countries of the world.

Members of the expedition will further travel to Japan, then to South Korea, China and the United States. The team of travelers will test the hypothesis of the migration of the Altai people to the territory of America. In East Asia, they will go over the route completed by the Kipchak warriors as part of the army of Kublai Khan. Overall, until 2019 the team of the scientific expedition is going to visit 50 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa and America.
