‘The era of independence’: Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping mission

25 years ago, Kazakhstan took a bold step towards achieving a goal of building a world without nuclear weapons. This has been prioritized in the republic’s peacekeeping mission as the chairman of the UN Security Council. Kazakhstan highlights the importance of establishing mutual understanding and trust between the world's nuclear powers for the effective resolution of conflicts. Kazakhstan actively participates in development of proposals on countering terrorism and extremism throughout the world. These important political decisions can be found in "The Era of Independence", the book by the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev.

KURMANGALI DARKENOV, PROFESSOR, GUMILYOV EURASIAN STATE UNIVERSITY:

 - Kazakhstan is an active participant of the world processes. Our republic takes part in resolving many conflicts in the world. A bright indicator is the organization and the Astana process, designed to resolve the conflict in Syria. Our current goal is to maintain international stability, ensure security and strengthen Kazakhstan's international image.

Experts highlight Kazakhstan’s important position of the peacekeeper in the international arena from the very first days of its independence. Kazakhstan’s active participation in a number of organizations, particularly, OSCE, OIC, SCO and the UN Security Council in January 2018 testifies the effectiveness of Kazakhstan's peacekeeping foreign policy. According to analysts, the Kazakh model of development leads by example as well as the initiatives and proposals of the republic increases the interest of many countries.

SANAT KUSHKUMBAYEV, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, KAZAKHSTAN INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES:

 - Kazakhstan’s proactive foreign policy is written down in this book particularly, the chairmanship in the OSCE and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Of course, the culmination of Kazakhstan's foreign policy is the chairmanship in the UN Security Council in January 2018. Of course, the book includes plans for the future.
