Kazakhstan’s lead inspires the UN

According to the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN highly appreciates Kazakhstan’s anti-nuclear initiatives. The international organization is especially interested in the speech given by Nursultan Nazarbayev at the Pugwash Conference in Astana. Then the Kazakh President proposed to consolidate all global anti-nulcear initiatives and meet the UN's 100th anniversary in a world free of nuclear weapons. End of October this year, the UN General Assembly supported Kazakhstan and adopted an updated resolution on the International Day against nuclear tests. Kazakhstan proposed to establish an annual high-level plenary meeting on this date.

IZUMI NAKAMITSU, THE UN UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL AND HIGH REPRESENTATIVE FOR DISARMAMENT AFFAIRS:

- Astana has been playing this vision that was put together by Kazakhstan to get rid of Semipalatinsk test side and to appeal to all the other countries to follow their suit. I hope that Kazakhstan will continue to, if you will fly the flag of nuclear disarmament needs. It is definitely one of the needs in international community
