Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov. The Foreign Minister reported on the results of his participation in the 72nd session of the United Nations (UN) Security Council. He told the head of state about the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s activities as part of the upcoming chairmanship in the UN Security Council. Kairat Abdrakhmanov also talked about the main areas of Kazakhstan's cooperation in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia and highlighted that all member countries of the organization positively assess the republic’s peacekeeping efforts in the settlement of the Syrian conflict. Exterior minister Abdrakhmanov noted that the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation spoke highly of the results of the summit of the Organization on Science and Technology held in Astana in September. Following the meeting, the President of Kazakhstan gave a number of specific instructions.

KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, KAZAKH FOREIGN MINISTER:

 - Mr. President, I took part in the UN Security Council debates upon your instructions. It gave us another opportunity to promote our initiatives on the international arena, including those on countering terrorism announced in the UN two years ago. A number of events were held as part of the UN General Assembly.

NURSULTAN NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

 - Are we going to chair the UN Security Council in January?

KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, KAZAKH FOREIGN MINISTER:

 - Yes, in January. Kazakhstan will chair the UN Security Council for the first time. We are preparing for it now.
