In the next two years, the Kazakh language will be available in Google’s free voice translation service. According to the project initiators, new opportunities will help the Kazakh language be accessible to residents of other countries in terms of the use of digital devices. Now pronunciation and processing of 150,000 words and phrases in Kazakh are underway, so Google translate users will hear these phrases and words later. More than 200 million people speaking 103 different languages use Google’s translation service daily.

RAUAN KENZHEKHANULY, ACTING DIRECTOR, NATIONAL TRANSLATIONS BUREAU:

- Inclusion and subsequent development of the Kazakh language in Google’s translation service depends not only on us who are engaged in this project but also on other people. The Kazakh language speaking users of Google translate should report any inaccuracies to the service. The service has this function.

When the Kazakh language switches to the Latin alphabet, some aspects concerning the language on the Google Translate will be revised.

RAUAN KENZHEKHANULY, ACTING DIRECTOR, NATIONAL TRANSLATIONS BUREAU:

- We will wait for the alphabet’s approval and then this will be a technical work. Working on a the text-to-text translation mode means translation of written texts which is not a complicated process. We will need to develop a simple code that will tell us which letter from the old alphabet is equal to the letter of the new alphabet and the system will automatically give it to us which won’t take much time.
