Will Kazakhstan become a diplomatic intermediary in the Syrian conflict?
Kazakhstan can become a permanent diplomatic mediator. Astana Process is an effective platform for settling the Syrian conflict, many international analysts and observers believe.
SERGEY BABURIN, CHAIRMAN, COMMITTEE IN SOLIDARITY WITH PEOPLE OF SYRIA:
- Astana is one of the most effective platforms for settling the Middle Eastern crisis and Syrian conflict, where interests of the people of Syria are taken into account. Kazakhstan let achieve something that did not work in Geneva. Astana has played and continues to play one of the key roles in ending the war in Syria.
According to Shahid Qureshi, editor-in-chief of the British newspaper The London Post, the Astana Process will proceed to a constructive dialogue and will bring diplomatic success. He also highlights the special role of the President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev as an authoritative politician and effective mediator.
SHAHID QURESHI, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, THE LONDON POST:
- I think it was a great initiative taken by Nursultan Nazarbayev keeping in view he has influence towards the Muslim world. He is a member of the OIC, he is very well respected in that. At the same time he is a part of the Soviet relations with Russia for example, and Syria has very close relations with Soviet Union, former Soviet Union.
