Kazakhstan plays an important role in promotion of anti-nuclear initiatives. Kazakhstan has been chosen as a place for storing the international reserve of low-enriched uranium, which reflects the trust of the global community, says Yukiya Amano, the International Atomic Energy Association Director General. The uranium bank will receive its first batch of raw materials next year.

YUKIYA AMANO, IAEA DIRECTOR GENERAL:

 - Your country and your president in particular have played an important role in strengthening nuclear safety in the world. The opening of low-enriched uranium bank in Kazakhstan proves this. The bank will become the world’s last hope in solving a wide range of issues in the field of nuclear security and non-proliferation.

According to experts, the opening of the low-enriched uranium bank in Kazakhstan is a civilized way of non-proliferating mass destruction weapons. Moreover, the republic demonstrates leadership in building a nuclear-free world.

LASSINA ZERBO, CTBTO EXECUTIVE SECRETARY:

 - We hope that the opening of the Low Enriched Uranium Bank in Kazakhstan will become the basis for trust in the use of the atom, the trust that is now lacking in countries, and which can be a decisive argument in creation of a world free of nuclear weapons.
