NEW ETHNIC VILLAGE WELCOMES EXPO VISITORS
Expo visitors will be able to delve into the ancient nomadic civilization in the unusual ethnic village that opened in the suburbs of Astana. The organizers’ idea was to let foreign visitors learn about the history, art, customs and traditions, national cuisine of the Kazakh people, and even become a part of this nomadic life.
AKTOTY RAIMKULOVA, KAZAKH VICE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND SPORTS:
- This ethnic village is set to let foreign visitors plunge into the nomadic atmosphere and discover the Kazakh culture. We put all efforts to make the village function fully: even water and electricity supply matters and it was another challenge that we tackled.
The ethnic village unfolded in 2,500 square meters. Kazakh musical and theatrical art festivals, craftsmanship workshops, equestrian sports, Kazakh traditional games such as audaryspak, kokpar, baiga, and kyzkuu – all these will be a part of the Kazakh ethnic village. Visitors will see various performances and sports competitions.
ELSIYAR KANAGATOV, COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SPORTS:
- Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Sports is planning to hold nearly 20 international sports competitions as part of Expo 2017, including Kazakh national sports competitions
The ethnic village is divided into sections. One features traditional golden eagle hunting, the other Kazakh applied art workshops where visitors can take part in the creation of masterpieces.
ANEL ALIBAI, DECORATIVE PAINTER:
- I use various techniques. This picture was created with wet felting technique, there is also mixed technique. It is nano-felt when the wool rolls along with silk. There is still felting technique, I also use it. After the painting dries, I finish it by dry felting.
After the expo finishes, the ethnic village will operate as a seasonal cultural center. The largest national events will be held here. Organizers believe that this place will soon become the favorite city spot for locals and visitors.
