Kazakhstan and Dominican Republic intend to facilitate Visa regime
Kazakhstan and the Dominican Republic are reaching a new level of cooperation. The two countries intend to facilitate the visa policy. Intergovernmental agreement is in the implementation process. According to the Kazakh Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, this agreement will strengthen tourism and set conditions for joint businesses. The head of the Kazakh foreign ministry has met with his counterpart from the Dominican Republic, Miguel Vargas. This is the first official visit in the history of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has showed interest in increasing the volume of trade and investment, as well as partnership with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Miguel Vargas highlighted that Kazakhstan is a key partner in Central Asian region. In addition, he mentioned that the expo in Astana will promote the expansion of bilateral contacts. The meeting resulted in the signing of a political declaration.
MIGUEL VARGAS, FOREIGN MINISTER OF DOMINICAN REPUBLIC:
- This is my first historic visit to your beautiful city. We signed a bilateral agreement to cooperate in various programs like cultural area, energy and economy. Political dialogue has been emphasized, too. We want to strengthen it by signing additional agreements.
KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, KAZAKH FOREIGN MINISTER:
- During the discussion of key issues on the international agenda, we highlighted the coincidence of approaches to all relevant issues. Moreover, the necessity in further coordination of joint efforts in framework of international organizations has been discussed by the Kazakh members, especially, in context of Kazakhstan’s membership in the UN.
Kazakhstan is strengthening cooperation with Switzerland. This year marks the 25th anniversary diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Switzerland. The countries actively cooperate in all industries. Over the past three years, commodity turnover between the countries has exceeded US$10 billion. Approximately 40 Swiss companies work in Kazakhstan.
ROMAN VASILENKO, DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- From 2005 to 2016 the revenue of investments from Switzerland to Kazakhstan amounted to US$17.5 billion. The volume of Kazakhstan’s direct investment in Switzerland reached US$815 million. Effective work of the intergovernmental commission on trade-economic cooperation and the Kazakh-Swiss business council play an important role in expansion and growth of bilateral income.
URS SCHMID, SWISS AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:
- Switzerland Kazakhstan’s fifth most important trading partner. As vice minister Vasilenko has already pointed out export from Kazakhstan to Switzerland amounted to US$ 2.7 billion last year .
The Swiss Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Urs Schmid, has announced that the President of the Swiss Confederation is planning to pay an official visit to Astana which is scheduled for August 11th. It is expected that Doris Leuthard will take part in the opening of the Swiss National Day at Astana EXPO 2017.
