Members of the historical expedition visited Astrakhan region, namely Altynzhar village where the great kuyshy Kurmangazy is entombed. The legendary Kazakh musician and composer left a mark in the history of the Kazakh nation. The author of the kuiys ‘Adai’, ‘Balbyrauyn’ and ‘Saryarka’ composed nearly 60 pieces of musical art. Each of them has its own philosophical meaning. Dozens of people visit the local museum to learn more about the life of the Kazakh composer and improviser. The most valuable exhibit here is dombyra, Kurmangazy taught his friend’s grandson to play.

ZHUMAKYZ IMANBAYEVA, MUSEUM STAFF:

 - Kurmangazy told his friend: ‘This is my dombyra. Teach your grandson to play all the kuiys you know.’ He made the dombyra himself. Professor from Italy visited us last year. He said that the musical instrument was flawless and was made with accuracy to a millimeter.

A cultural center was opened next to the museum. Visitors can both learn about the life of the great kuishy and listen to his works performed on dombyra.

AMANGELDI ABILGAZIYEV, DIRECTOR, KURMANGAZY REGIONAL CULTURAL CENTER:

 - Our main task is to let people know how great Kurmagazy was. Many tourists visit us. We perform his kuiys, tell about his works. His invaluable legacy was recognized by the entire world.

SAPAR ISKAKOV, TRAVELLER:

 - I wish young Kazakh people knew more about the great ancestors and their talents. Kurmangazy wrote many genius kuiys and made an invaluable contribution to the development of our culture. We, as his descendants, should know his works and awaken our spiritual consciousness

Another destination of the historical expedition has been reached. Now they are headed to Dagestan that leads to new discoveries.
