Library fund of Kazakhstan plans to digitize by 2020
Electronic libraries were another advancement that helped to become integrated in the world community. It has been 10 years since the creation of digital books fund which features over 32,000 Kazakh writers’ publications. They are available online on kazneb website. It is planned to digitalize the whole library fund of Kazakhstan by 2020. Then Kazakhstan will be able to become a part of the international project "CIS Electronic Library".

The project is very popular not only in Kazakhstan but also beyond. Over 120 countries visited us last year. There were different countries. The project is very popular. We also work with our colleagues from the CIS states.
A team of professionals is working on the digitalizing process. They scan 3-4 books per day. In the future, there will be an access not only to Kazakhstan’s digital library fund but also the Russian. In 2015, the library launched a special mobile application. It was downloaded more than 10,000 times.

Kaznab is not just an application, but a huge automated library system where users can order and receive books. 3D-viewing of books the version for the visually impaired is also available.

Nowadays people don’t have any spare time to visit libraries. I use the mobile application and read books on my smartphone. It is very convenient. You can read books anywhere: at home, in the bus, any time when you are free.
Those who prefer paper versions can read books in Almaty subway. A bookshelf opened at the station ‘Baikonur’. The main idea of the project is ‘read and pass it to another’. This format of book exchange works worldwide. There are more than 700 books of different genres on the bookshelf made in the form of globe. Special wish list is there for leaving a feedback. It is another idea that can unite fans of travelling books.
