It’s been 25 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and France. A solemn ceremony was held in Paris to celebrate this event. Kazakh Foreign Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov met with the heads of the OECD and UNESCO and representatives of business circles of France. One of the main negotiation topics was the development of multidimensional partnership between the states. Delivering speech at the meeting of foreign ministers of Central Asian countries, head of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry expressed his confidence in feasibility of formation regional peace and security model and he also emphasized the importance of the leading role of France in resolution of global issues.

 

KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, KAZAKH FOREIGN MINISTER:

- It was France that was among the first Western countries to recognize the independence of our country and other Central Asian countries. We took the opportunity and told our French colleagues that Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries are aimed at making our region and our country a pole of economic growth and stability in the region. We assured our French colleagues that we are open for broad cooperation in political, economic, trade, investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

 

Paris has been supporting Kazakhstan's foreign policy and economic initiatives. France was the first to respond to Kazakhstan’s proposal to hold an OSCE summit in Astana in 2010 and supported the request of the Kazakh capital to host the EXPO 2017. Since the beginning of this year, Kazakhstan and France have been actively cooperating in the UN Security Council. Over 25 years of fruitful relations, more than 130 companies with French capital have been successfully operating in Kazakhstan, and since 2005 the volume of direct investments from France to the economy of Kazakhstan has amounted to more than $13 billion.

 

KAIRAT ABDRAKHMANOV, KAZAKH FOREIGN MINISTER:

- French investors are interested in petrochemicals, processing agricultural products and tourism. Some French companies are offering us new technologies in industrial gases processing, and assistance in involving French companies in the implementation of petrochemical projects. There are specific projects such as water purification to be launched in Western Kazakhstan.

 

BERNARD CLEMENT, VICE PRESIDENT, TOTAL:

- In total, is doing in Kazakhstan, for many years we are working in your country, particularly, in oil and gas sector, where we are partner in the big Kashagan projects. We are very hopeful about the future. So, as you know we have just started.

 

Kazakh Foreign Minister and the OECD Secretary General discussed the prolongation of cooperation program. Angel Gurria has emphasized the progress achieved in implementation of the organization’s recommendations, and noticed that Kazakhstan follows the OECD standards in the formation of its economic policy. France is also preparing for Expo 2017. It will demonstrate latest green technologies and present rich cultural program.
