Eight athletes will represent Karaganda region at the 28th World Winter Universiade. Athlete Lyudmila Akhatova is among them. She has entered Kazakhstan’s national biathlon team. Lyudmila trains twice a day. She warms up, does cross-country skiing, and overcomes the firing lines. A complex track in Almaty requires enhanced training, the athlete says.

LYUDMILA AKHATOVA, MASTER OF SPORTS:

This is my first serious competition. The games are the second significant competition after the Olympic Games. It requires a lot of training and hard work.

19-year-old student was the fastest and the most accurate at the Kazakhstan championship in Petropavlovsk. The athlete won the 7th place at the Kazakhstan Winter Competitions. She lives and trains in Temirtau. She has trained much at the town’s stadium. The biathlon school was opened 15 years ago in Temirtau. 50 local athletes are involved in biathlon. They regularly show good results at various competitions.

In order to be successful in biathlon, it is necessary to ski well, and then we prepare the athletes to shoot.

At the Universiade, Karaganda athletes will compete in speed skating, cross-country skiing and biathlon.
