Kazakh scientists ‘works have received international recognition. One of the periodicals in a series of geological sciences and engineering of the Kazakh National Academy of Sciences has entered the Scopus international database. The ceremony marking this event was held in Almaty. Scopus database in many countries is one of the main sources of information necessary for carrying out evaluation studies. 5,000 international publishers are registered here, and Kazakhstani scientists’ works are the only ones coming from the Central Asia. Therefore, the scientists consider this a remarkable event and say that the status of this event is similar to the Nobel Prize. The main headquarters of the National Academy of Sciences issues eight academic journals since 1946.

Murat ZHURINOV, PRESIDENT, KAZAKH NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES:

The basis of our economy is the mining industry, oil, raw materials, metallurgy, chemical industry, including three petrochemical plants, as well as agriculture. Science should mainly develop in these areas.
