Kazakh science development gains momentum. Many Kazakh scientists are winning European research grants. Some of them are going even further by obtaining patents for new inventions. Professor Askar Baubek has recently received a European patent for his invention - unique installation for combustion of hydrocarbon gas. The patent review has shown that there is no similar device in the world. The invention is unique by its energy efficiency and environmental compatibility. Nearly 30% of fuel is usually not burned during the combustion process in the engines and technologies that are currently in use, the unburnt fuel is then released into atmosphere. The new device helps to reach high temperature, and the heat gets almost completely released from the fuel. This brings less harm to the environment.

Askar BAUBEK, PROJECT AUTHOR, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, GUMILYOV EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:

The main feature of this device is that fuel combustion is performed under pressure. The higher the pressure in the combustion chamber the faster the chemical reaction, the higher the temperature the greater the radiant infrared radiation. That is how, we save more, it gives 20% greater efficiency and reduces damage to the environment, and indicators showed that combustion products of the fuel-air mixture are ideal, they don’t produce smoke. The device is cross functional. Classic burner can burn one or two types of fuel, the new device can burn many different fuels.

Askar Baubek’s device has been tested at the international laboratory for 26 months. During this time the Commission examined nearly a hundred analogues and prototypes of the device from around the world. However, the Kazakh scientist was able to prove that his invention was an absolute innovation.

Mikhail ZHUMAGULOV, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, GUMILYOV EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:

Recent calculations have shown that the aerodynamic resistance of the burner is lower than in any other analogue, the comparative analysis proves the efficiency of the burner and low energy consumption for auxiliary needs of the burner.

The granted patent indicates that 40 European countries have recognized Kazakh scientist’s invention in the field of combustion, and the patent protects the rights of the author for the next 20 years. Large Kazakh companies have already expressed interest in the unique device for fuel combustion; they are ready to install Askar Baubek’s invention at their production sites. At present, the scientist is looking for investors for his project.

Askar BAUBEK, PROJECT AUTHOR, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, GUMILYOV EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:

This invention was not created to put it on a shelf. It should be put in industrial use. That is called commercialization. There is a chance, there are concrete results. I think over time not today maybe tomorrow it will get noticed. We need to find investors; the EBRD encourages such projects and funds them. Much is being done. We just need to look for opportunities.
