A Swiss delegation has arrived in Astana. Swiss businessmen have met with local counterparts in search of new ways of cooperation and discussed plans of expanding partnerships. In particular, foreign investors have offered a number of interesting projects related to banking, transport logistics, construction, healthcare, tourism and other businesses. AYAN ERENOV, CHAIRMAN, KAZAKH COMMERCE CHAMBER OF ENTREPRENEURS:

Setting up a structure that will promote cooperation between the two countries is what we are looking into. We have agreed that we will actively assist the Kazakhstani businesses to find Swiss partners. We have also asked for assistance from the Swiss companies that are interested in cooperation. They are interested in our country, because we have for them a link to the Chinese market. From here, they are ready to enter the Russian market.

GUIDO SACCO, DIRECTOR, GLOBAL CONTRACTORS:

We are 33 participants for all enterprises from Switzerland mainly from the finance sector, from the healthcare system, from the services to companies and also from petroleum. The goal of our visit is to start cooperation with Kazakh economy, Kazakh entrepreneurs. In political point of view Kazakhstan is some similar with Switzerland because it’s a neutral country, independent, there is no geopolitical agenda. So for Switzerland it’s important to develop relations with similar countries, with similar goals. We think it’s now a good moment to invest in Kazakhstan.

In the course of negotiations, one of the Swiss construction companies has offered to build a brick factory in Kazakhstan. As noted by investors, a special combination of cement and wood will allow homes to retain heat better. One of the advantages of the project, according to businessmen, is the low cost of products. In addition, there will no need for imports of building materials from abroad.

GUIDO SACCO, DIRECTOR, GLOBAL CONTRACTORS:

That can allow to make special kind of brick that makes this kind of building absolutely strong and in case of earthquake they don’t move, they don’t have any effort to stay there and not only this but against fire. It is completely impossible that the fire take them. So there is a big technology. 25 million is the cost of the manufacturing but after there is a big profit following.

Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Switzerland amounted to $2 billion in the first half of 2016. However, according to experts, the potential for cooperation is much greater. Moreover, Kazakhstan has set ambitious goals on improving its foreign trade.
