Katon-Karagay National Park, located in Eastern Kazakhstan, prepares to welcome guests of the EXPO-2017. According to the administration, the park will surprise the tourists. New trails leading to the sacred Mount Belukha, alpine lakes, waterfalls and taiga forests are under development. These places can be reached only for horse riders or hikers. Every tourist will be impressed by the nature of these places, the park’s administration believes.

Alexander KOBZEV, HEAD OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS DEPARTMENT, KATON-KARAGAY NATIONAL PARK:

We are focusing on the preparations to the EXPO-2017. We are conducting renovation and reconstruction works. We have developed the total of 9 trails, covering all the attractions located within the Park’s territory.   We also have a few natural sites that are listed in the UNESCO natural heritage list.

The number of people wishing to see the beauty of the Kazakhstan’s Altai Mountains is increasing year by year. In the last 15 years the number of tourists grew 10 times. All the necessary conditions have been created for them. New yurts have been put up and new guest houses have been constructed. Photographer from Moscow Dina Fatahova drove 7,000 kilometers to see the beauty of Katon Karagay. However, she says the splendor of the local nature was worth the drive.

Dina FATAHOVA, TOURIST FROM RUSSIA:

Firstly, I thought of going to Mongolia, as I wanted to see yurts and meet Mongolian people. I had planned to spend 10 days in Kazakhstan. But after I came here, I loved it so much that I stayed. I have been here for almost a month. And, I don’t want to leave at all. The country has turned out to so much more picturesque, lively and dynamic than I had imagined.

The National Park’s adminsitarion is also planning to set up a Siberian Stag farm to attract more tourists by pantotherapy.

Yerlan MUSTAFIN, DIRECTOR GENERAL, KATON-KARAGAY NATIONAL PARK:

The rafting is our pilot project. We offer fishing trips on Yazevoe Lake, horseback riding and hiking trails. We are able to surprise our tourists. I was abroad many times through exchange programs, but nowhere else have I seen such beautiful nature.
