Senate ratifies amendments to the Agreement on mutual recognition of benefits and guarantees for the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.  Health and Social Development Minister Tamara Duissenova noted that after gaining independence, the document played an important role in ensuring social protection of certain categories of citizens, including veterans of the Great Patriotic War. However, the Agreement had to be amended due to the fact that the CIS states have national legislations. According to the minister, the document specifies the list of guarantees provided to veterans temporarily staying on the territory of the Agreement states. The list includes participants of military operations on eliminating illegal armed groups on the Ukrainian, Belarusian, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian territories between January 1944 and December 1951.

Vladimir REDKOKASHIN, MEMBER OF SENATE:

Its adoption fully indicates the recognition of the merits of veterans and home front workers in achieving victory over fascism. The agreement aims at strengthening social benefits and guarantees for veterans.
