A Council on Ethics of Mazhilis members was formed in the Lower House of Parliament. Its task is to prevent violations by parliamentarians. The structure includes 7 members representing all factions. It is headed by Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Kuanysh Sultanov. Jointly with the Central Election Commission, the Council members will develop disciplinary measures in relation to the MPs. As Speaker of the Mazhilis Nurlan Nigmatullin said, this practice already exists in many countries. The deputy ethics rules are defined by the Constitutional Law "On the Parliament of Kazakhstan and the status of its members’.

KUANYSH SULTANOV, MEMBER OF MAZHILIS:

Everything must comply with the legislation. If the MP expresses criticism against anything, he should provide verified facts, not speculation and assumptions. This should be taken into account. On the whole, the Council should increase the responsibility of parliamentarians in their work.

Also Mazhilis members reviewed the ratification of the agreement on the continuation of the International Science and Technology Center.

YERLAN SAGADIYEV, KAZAKH MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE:

The center contributes to the improvement of international mechanisms to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, providing scientists and engineers with the knowledge and skills applicable to weapons of mass destruction, opportunities for training and alternative employment in areas where their knowledge can be used for peaceful activities.

The activity is relevant, because Kazakhstan today is one of the world leaders in anti-nuclear disarmament. Center’s headquarters will be moved from Russia to Kazakhstan, and will be located in the Nazarbayev University, and after the EXPO 2017 on the territory of the international exhibition.
