Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan joint Centre for Emergency and Disaster Risk Reduction started its work in Almaty. Its status is a permanent inter-governmental body. However, the Center for Emergency Situations will monitor and analyze the situation not only in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, but in the entire Central Asian region. According to the latest official data, the Central Asian states are struck by various types of emergencies with fatalities and serious destruction almost every year.

The core point of the establishment of the center is the development of international relations in the field of emergency and disaster risk reduction between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Now Afghanistan joins as an observer. Also, there is relation between emergency services and the public through the center of the international organizations, particularly with the UN institutions.
