In The Hague, the ceremony of laying ‘Stone of the World’ from the Eastern Kazakhstan to the famous monument to the ‘Global flame of peace’ was held. The campaign was organized by our Embassy in the Netherlands and the International Fund ‘World Peace Flame’ dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site. The world –famous monument ‘Global Peace Flame’ is an eternal fire surrounded by stones brought from nearly 200 countries and, symbolizing the contribution of each of them to peace. Each stone is unique, such as a piece of the Berlin Wall or the stone from Robben Island, where the famous human rights activist Nelson Mandela spent many years in prison. Henceforth, our country is represented by stone from the East Kazakhstan that the most affected by the nuclear tests conducted at the Semipalatinsk test site.

The decision to close the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site that happened 25 years ago is historical and continues till now. Our country took a firm decision for nuclear disarmament. One more important event is that Kazakhstan will be member -in the UN Security Council in 2017-2018, where Kazakhstan will continue its work on promotion a nuclear-free world and other initiatives of the President Nazarbayev described at his manifesto ‘Peace. XXI century’.

The ceremony today underlines that Kazakhstan is further and further connecting the world. And Kazakhstan is, of course, the first nation to be here; also, at this Monument because of next year 25 years ago the decision of President Nazarbayev to close down Semipalatinsk.
