In four years, Kazakhstan will present the third national report to the UN Committee on Human Rights. The previous defence of the document was held in Geneva in June. The members of the Committee had given 25 recommendations for the implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. The work is already being implemented by the government, the Supreme Court, the General Prosecutor’s Office and other state agencies. According to experts, they are aimed at strengthening measures to combat domestic violence, the continuation of gender policies and inclusive education.

Elvira AZIMOVA, KAZAKH DEPUTY MINISTER OF JUSTICE:

All the 25 recommendations fall within the competence of different state bodies. It was voiced for Kazakhstan to strengthen the fight against torture. The Ministry of Internal Affairs held public hearings and as of today the plan for the next steps was adopted, including the issues on the legislative clarification.
