Kazakh-Turkish relations caught the world’s media attention this week. The official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to Turkey is considered an historic event. Nursultan Nazarbayev became the first leader to visit the Turkish capital after a military coup attempt in July.

The guard of honor met the President of Kazakhstan at the entrance to the Turkish presidential residence. This meeting was called the best proof of the strong trust and friendship of the two fraternal peoples.

Nursultan NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

Turkey has shown to the world that it can counter any challenge that should be resolved sensibly and rationally. I sincerely believe that Turkey will overcome the crisis and will be an influential country in the world. The relations between Turkey and Russia that are beginning to improve are the evidence of that. And that affects the entire region.

Recep TAYYIP ERDOGAN, PRESIDENT OF TURKEY:

Nursultan Nazarbayev's visit to Turkey is very important for our country. You support us greatly at this difficult time for the Turkish people. On behalf of all the people I want to express the appreciation and gratitude to you. Kazakhstan is making an invaluable contribution to the strengthening of friendship and trust between our countries.

Today a dialogue is as important as never before. Kazakhstan made its contribution in restoring the Russian-Turkish relations. The nation played the role of a peacemaker in the global political arena. After all, Kazakhstan is following the important principle that will help maintain and promote a world without war. Nursultan Nazarbayev always says: conflicts should be solved.

Recep TAYYIP ERDOGAN, PRESIDENT OF TURKEY:

At the SCO summit in Uzbekistan we focused on resolving this issue. My Special Representative, with your help, gave me a letter addressed to the Russian state. And soon I will meet with Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg. We will need to revive previous relationship. Turkish people are very grateful and appreciate the President of Kazakhstan. Undoubtedly, Nursultan Nazarbayev contributed to the revival of Russian-Turkish relations.

Ismail KAHRAMAN, CHAIRMAN, GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF TURKEY:

Nursultan Nazarbayev is a recognized political leader on the world stage - it's a fact, and he is a skilled strategist. It is the merit of your country that Russia and Turkey agreed for a dialogue. And it is very important for us.

Kazakhstan and Turkey are ready to join efforts to ensure global security and stability amid global challenges and threats. Such issues as the conflict in Syria and counter-terrorism challenges and economic cooperation between the two countries all were heavily discussed. Over the last year the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkey which had been adversely affected by the unstable political situation in Turkey, has decreased. The Heads of state noted the importance to define a new impetus in the relations to improve the figures up to $10 billion a year.

Nursultan NAZARBAYEV, PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

We need to increase the volume of mutual trade turnover to $10 billion. The program stipulates the implementation of 20 investment projects worth about $813 million. Turkey is a key transit country with a developed infrastructure, I invite the brotherly Turkish people to take part in the program ‘Nurly Zhol’. In this regard, the creation of the Kazakh-Turkish industrial zones plays an important role. These steps will give impetus to further expansion of economic opportunities between the two countries.

Kazakhstan exports raw materials to Turkey such as oil and metals. Turkey delivers construction materials, textiles, food products and car parts among many other. Investments are very important: over 1,000 Turkish companies are successfully operating in Kazakhstan. Turkey is one of the closest and reliable political and economic partners to Kazakhstan. And today these relations have reached the level of strategic partnership.
