As of the 1st of August, Kazakhstanis have legalized property and assets worth 2 trillion tenge. Of these, nearly a third accounts for real estate and securities. According to recent data of the State Revenue Committee, the number of countries where citizens had ‘shadow’ property increased significantly. To date, their number is 16. Thus, almost 100,000 people applied for legalization during the period of the campaign. The simplification of conditions of the amnesty campaign introduced in December last year has greatly facilitated the process. The efficiency of legalization has increased by 5 times.

Yerzhan BIRZHANOV, DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT AND MODERNIZATION DEPARTMENT, STATE REVENUE COMMITTEE, MINISTRY OF FINANCE:

In 2017, we start the 1st stage of the transition to universal declaration. It is expected that the employees of state institutions, as well as national companies and state-owned enterprises will provide a declaration of assets and property. In the next stage, in 2020, it is expected to introduce a declaration of assets and property of all other individuals. Today, Kazakhstan has joined and ratified the Strasbourg Agreement, which provides the interchange of data on property and money held abroad. Several offshore countries also acceded to the Strasbourg Agreement.
