South Kazakhstani farmers started to collect fruits. Favorable weather conditions yielded a rich harvest this year. Local farmers plan to harvest 170,000 tons of fruit and berries during this season. Fruits grown by Kazygurt farmers are sold in different regions of the country. Varieties imported from Italy are grown on an area of 500 hectares with the use of drip irrigation. There are not only apples and grapes, but also peaches, pears, prunes in the garden. Local villagers take care of them.

Sultan ZHOLDASBAYEV, AGRONOMIST:

Here we have the first crop of grapes, the variety is called Victoria, it is from Italy. We have garden of 20 hectares, we cultivate grapes on12 hectares and apple trees on 7 hectares. The yield grows every year.

Harvest is kept in a special storage. The fruits retain their quality for a long time due to the introduction of new technologies.

Nurlan KURALOV, DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FARM:

The fruits are in high demand since they are fresh and ecologically clean. For instance we picked fruits today and in 20 hours they appear on the table of Astana residents. We plan to expand production in future up to 2,000 tons of grapes and 2,000 tons of apples, plums, peaches, pears – the entire variety of fruits.

The territory of orchards increases every year. The state returns 40% of the costs in the form of grants to those who invest in the land.

Aidos ABIHANOV, DEPUTY HEAD OF REGIONAL AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT:

If you get 8-10 tons from an ordinary garden, intensive care gardens give 25 to 50 tons of fruits in three years. Of course, it is economically advantageous. And farmers are eager to engage in this sort of gardening.
