Maxim Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theater staged a premiere of a solo performance featuring works by Alexander Pushkin. The main role was played by People's Artist of Kazakhstan Sergey Matveyev. The audience enjoyed the excerpts from "The Miserly Knight", "The Queen of Spades", "The Prophet" and "Autumn", as well as "Scene from Faust". Sergey Matveyev said all these works of the Russian classics were close to him. First of all, he tried not only to perform his favorite works written by the genius poet, but also to discover Pushkin - exalted and tragic, unrestrained and timid. The premiere was held as part of the 20th anniversary of Astana and Modernization of Public Consciousness program.

 - Every time I see how our colleagues treat the classics, they can freely read poetry as a rap. I personally do not like it. I believe that the Russian classics especially Pushkin’s poetry should sound poetically, as Pushkin meant it.
