Transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script opens new opportunities for Kazakhstan in the international arena. Former Prime Minister of Norway, fighter for human rights, interreligious accord and world peace Kjell Magne Bondevik supports Kazakhstan’s initiative.

KJELL MAGNE BONDEVIK, FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF NORWAY:

 - I want to congratulate Kazakhstan with this reform. I do think that it will be to the benefit of the people and it will make it easier to communicate with the rest of the world, and integrate Kazakhstan even more in the international society. Kazakhstan will in this way come more in line with the rest of the world with regard to the alphabet.

Transition to the Latin script will not only be a breakthrough in the field of modern technologies, but will also bring Kazakhstan closer to the Turkic nations. Experts say that the transition to the new script will strengthen cultural, spiritual, scientific and economic ties with the Turkic-speaking countries.

AMANZHOL MEYRMANOV, SENIOR RESEARCHER, KAZAKH INSTITUTE FOR PHILOSOPHY, POLITICAL SCIENCE AND RELIGION STUDIES:

 - In the era of globalization, we can respond to challenges only by preserving the common culture of the Turkic-speaking peoples. First of all, transition of the Kazakh alphabet into the Latin script should unite us. Each nation has its own language peculiarities; there are specific sounds that have to be preserved. But there must be one script for common sounds, which are the same for all, that displays the corresponding graphic image.
