The transition to the Latin alphabet will enable Kazakhs to integrate actively into the global community. Today more than 4 billion people use the Latin script. According to Andrea Carteni, professor of History at the La Sapienza University in Rome, the Kazakh language in Latin will be more accessible to Europeans. He is confident about the success of Kazakhstan’s language reform. He claims that the future generations will appreciate the current transformations.

ANDREA CARTENI, PROFESSOR OF HISTORY, LA SAPIENZA UNIVERSITY:

 - The choice of the alphabet is a very important factor for a foreigner who wants to learn a language. Thus, a Westerner who is accustomed to the Latin alphabet one barrier will be faded out. Furthermore, new generations of Kazakhs, who will study the Latin alphabet since their childhood, will become closer to the Western languages like English, Italian and etc.

The British media experts believe that the transition to the Latin alphabet is a necessary step in Kazakhstan’s development as an independent state. Modernization of the alphabet gives the wider opportunities in technology that can speed up the society, they say.

ALAN SPENCE, CEO, INTEGRATIVE MEDIA LTD:

 - I think it is going to be a good move.  People in the west and elsewhere world the Latin alphabet is used. It is very difficult to learn the Kazakh language, learn to read and write when you are going to a completely different system of learning another language is difficult anyway.
