"Kazakhstan’s transition to a new alphabet is a right and timely step"
Today 80% of the world’s population uses the Latin script. According to Lord Garry Kenneth Woolf, chairman of the Court of the Astana International Financial Center, Kazakhstan’s transition to a new alphabet is a right and timely step. He said that Kazakhstan’s language reform contributes to strengthening ties with the world community.
LORD GARRY KENNETH WOOLF, CHAIRMAN OF COURT, ASTANA INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL CENTER:
- I do think that it is a good idea and largely it would help some people like myself who has no natural ability to speak different languages, to have a principal alphabet that is around the world but this matters much more for people of Kazakhstan.
An expert at the Italian Geopolitical Higher Studies Institute said that Kazakhs will take advantage from the language reform. The country will succeed in the labor market in the first place. Alessandro Lundini is confident that the transition will accelerate the integration into the world community. According to a political scientist, the use of the Latin alphabet will definitely become an additional asset for Kazakhs in the competitive environment.
ALESSANDRO LUNDINI, EXPERT, ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF HIGHER STUDIES IN GEOPOLITICS:
- This topic has always been important for the government and president of Kazakhstan. Today we are talking about an introduction of the Latin alphabet. I think, this reform might facilitate the work of the Kazakh specialists and the Kazakh companies in the international market. Thanks to this language reform they will stand out from competitors. Everyone will benefit including business and government institutions.
